Simulation

Delta SubSea has invested a substantial amount of money in a State of the Art, FMC Schilling Robotics, ROV Operations Simulator powered by the CM Labs Vortex physics engine. The simulator is an identical layout to the actual ROV Controls in the Control Van and is used to train ROV Pilots on ROV Controls and ROV Operations. By using the simulator for training the pilots get an insight to the operations they will undertake and it is as close as possible to real life operations. The simulator has an additional instructor console that allows the instructor to see the piloting operations in 3D which in turn gives the instructor a view of all angles of operation allowing him to assess the pilot skills.

The FMC Schilling Robotics simulator instructor console. The console allows the instructor to make various inputs to change the operating parameters for visibility, temperature, water density and also to input faults into the system whilst the pilot is flying a scenario.

The simulator used is a Class 1 simulator which meets the standards required to allow 40 hours simulator time to be logged in the ROV Pilot Technicians logbook as operating time.

Training

Training Through Blended Learning

Delta SubSea has adopted the Blended Learning methodology to ensure the best form of knowledge retention for their personnel.

These levels cannot be reached without developing the skills required to achieve that aim and our comprehensive training program is designed to ensure our operators are given the tools that will set them up for success.

Through Blended Learning Delta SubSea ensures that all personnel develop their knowledge and skills at a pace that suits their style of development. Each individual who undertakes a learning experience is subject to a varied style of delivery through different forms of media; Traditional Classroom training, Online Learning through our Learning Management System (LMS) and Mobile, or On the Job Training (OJT). These differing methods ensure each individual can excel using the method that suits their style of learning.

Whilst there is a greater emphasis put on our offshore personnel due to the inherent danger associated with their work, the Training Department has a responsibility to ensure that corporate office personnel are afforded the same level of importance to ensure they are competent at completing their role successfully.

Training Program

At Delta SubSea we have a training matrix to align required training with the role the individual will undertake; this applies to onshore and offshore personnel.

On joining Delta SubSea personnel will follow the below process:

  • Onboarding program with HR
  • Arrange any external certification that may be required such as medicals, drug testing and any offshore certification such as BOSIET, Safe Gulf etc.
  • Meeting with direct supervisor to discuss job role and develop a ‘first 90 day program
  • Induction with the Training Department to cover the Delta SubSea induction program

Offshore personnel will then be given a Training Needs Analysis to discover where they may have a Skills Gap so a training program can be designed to suit their needs.

Delta SubSea induction covering:

  • Company introduction
  • QHSE Policy
  • DSS 12 Safety Measures
  • Short Service Employee Policy
  • Introduction to DSS Integrated Management System
  • DSS HSE Manual
  • Introduction to ROV Operations Manual
  • Offshore Operations Documentation

The induction curriculum is the foundation for ensuring all Delta SubSea offshore personnel have the underpinning knowledge and grounding to operate safely offshore.

Career Development

ROV Division

To ensure the sustainability and development of a company you have to ensure that your main asset, the people, feel valued and wanted. To ensure we meet these goals Delta SubSea has implemented a Route of Progression for ROV operatives to ensure they have a career with Delta SubSea rather than just a job. Starting at the bottom rung of the ladder as an ROV Pilot Technician level 3 (Trainee) an individual can progress through to an ROV Superintendent and beyond.

This progression is not without a lot of hard work and commitment from the individual but in return Delta SubSea will provide them with the necessary skills, both technical and personal, to ensure they meet their desired goals. Following the industry recognised International Marine Contractors Association (IMCA) guidelines for ROV operatives, Delta SubSea ensures that all personnel have the training and development that assists in achieving the desired competency.
